A day off. Samantha and I went out for brunch at Fran’s, a ’50s diner about two seconds from our apartment and exactly the kind of place we enjoy spending time. It’s taken us far too long to discover we share a neighbourhood with such a pleasant spot. Day by day, the neighbourhood becomes friendlier, most hospitable, more ours. It helps to take stock and be humbled by all of the thousands of different souls coming and going at Yonge and College. The two of us are grains of sand on an expansive shoreline of activity, and that’s oddly reassuring.

We walked over to Kensington Market after brunch, and then to Queen Street via Ossington, adding new clothing items as we went. Celebs are in town for TIFF, and we spent some time gawking at the gawkers (no celebs to be seen). It was a full day with a lot of walking and getting lost in Hudson’s Bay. After arriving back home we collapsed, ordered a pizza, and watched Backlash. Back to the grind tomorrow.
